Artist's Description

The concept was believed to have had its roots in India. At the time it was believed that the earth was flat and it stood on the back of an elephant, and the poor elephant had nothing to stand upon. A later version began in Virginia where a preacher said that the world was flat, and stood on the back of a turtle. He was questioned, "But what is the turtle standing upon?" He replied, "Another turtle, there are turtles all the way down of course."

.Artist Biography My name is Susan Culver, as a very young child I was highly imaginative, I started to draw as soon as I could hold a pencil in my hand. There was never a more excited child than I when my older sister gave me a one hundred and twenty pack of Crayola crayons. Having received this wondrous gift I was able to put crayon to paper and illustrate the world of my imagination. When I was about ten years old my father bought me a beautiful set of pastels, and I haven๏ฟฝt stopped painting, drawing, or designing since that time. I had been married for about fourteen years and had two children age four, and seven I decided to go back to school, at the ripe old age of thirty-six.
